If your Portuguese residence permit is going to expire in May or June 2026, there is good news.
Portugal’s immigration authority, the Agência para a Integração Migrações e Asilo (AIMA), has opened the online renewal portal for people whose residence cards expire in those months.
This means you can now start your renewal process online — without waiting for a physical appointment.
In the past, many foreign residents struggled to renew their permits because of long delays and appointment shortages. Since AIMA replaced the former immigration service, there has been a large backlog.
Now, AIMA is opening the renewal system month by month.
At this moment:People whose permits expire in May 2026.People whose permits expire in June 2026.can already log in and apply online.
The process is done through AIMA’s online renewal portal.
You will need to:
